Artist Silks
Our silk is manufactured for us in China, it is 100% pure A grade silk, produced to our own exacting requirement for our Artists and Silk Painters
We do not compromise weight or quality for cost, please bear this in mind when comparing prices.
Our silks are not treated with any factory processes, stiffeners, bulking agents, fire retardants, they are truly natural.
The only thing you will find in our silk is Sericin, which is a naturally occurring gum.

Silk Gauze
A very light open weave fabric, surprisingly strong. Suitable for felt making, clothing, layering, scarves and window dressings. Sometimes referred to as Silk Tissue.
Crinkle Chiffon
A lightweight ethereal crepe fabric with crinkle surface, lovely soft handle
Suitable for felt making, scarves, layered garments, window dressings
Silk Chiffon
A lightweight sheer, flat woven fabric with high lustre and very soft feel. Very transparent with high tensile strength. Uses include scarves, veiling, layering, banners, window treatments, limited only to your imagination.
Paj
A wafty light-weight plain weave silk with flat surface and wonderful lustre, known also as Pongee. We have chosen a 6mm Paj for extra tensile strength and better quality. Ideal for scarves, lining, layering, kites, wall hangings, sheer curtaining, flags and banners.
Habutai
A medium weight plain weave silk with flat surface and good sheen. Heavier than Paj. Excellent tensile strength. Takes colour well & is the preferred silk for painting and printing, as it is more controllable than lighter weight silks.
A great all purpose silk, suitable for wearable art, scarves, pictures, quilting, soft furnishings, screens, cards. Just to confuse, sometimes known as Jap.
Georgette 8mm
A lovely floaty, semi-transparent, soft silk with a crepe surface, soft handle, good drape and high strength.
Useful for garments, layering, scarves, wall hangings, window dressings. Due to the popularity of this silk, we are now offering a heavier 12mm which lends itself to all the same applications plus more weight and less transparency for clothing. Georgette has the peculiar attribute of clinging to the dye particles and increasing it's weight and body noticably.
Organza Natural
A sheer fabric with an open flat weave, stiff to handle, softens with washing/dye application.
A useful silk for screen printing, mounting and layering
Dupionii
A medium weight silk with very fine slub texture, character and matt finish.
With the appearance of a fine linen, a wonderful fabric for clothing, soft furnishings, machine embroidery and quilting.
This is a sophisticated silk and can offer a gentle 'scrunch' if required.
Silk Twill
Twill is distinctive in it's visible crossway twill weave, available in two weights, both excellent for medium weight clothing, and perfect for garments made 'on the cross' offering a lovely soft stretch and drape for dresses, skirts and blouses.
Silk Satin Crepe
A beautiful silk with the soft drape of a woven crepe backing and a soft satin sheen. Both sides can be used equally.
Light yet strong with high tensile strength. Suitable for scarves, day wear, evening wear, sleepwear, lingerie and drama/dance costuming as it catches the light beautifully and has great swing and motion.
Crepe de Chine
A luxury silk fabric with woven crepe weave, soft lustrous surface, heavy drape and swing. Strong, slightly stretchy, hangs beautifully.
Ideal for day wear, evening wear, blouses, dresses, scarves, and excellent for dressmaking 'on the cross'.
Spun Habutai
Spun Silk is a medium to heavy weight fabric with a soft feel, flat weave, matt surface, nice lustre and high tensile strength. Looking like linen, it will appeal to those who like Fuji. Ideal for clothing such as light jackets, waistcoats and dresses
Devore Velvet
Silk 20% / Viscose 80%
A lush pile fabric specifically designed for Devore 'burn out' work, whereby the viscose component (pile) is dissolved by the application of a special paste, leaving the silk ground unharmed.
Takes dye beautifully and can be equally appreciated as a luxury velvet fabric with or without burn out.
Suitable for clothing, especially Medieval dresses and capes, soft furnishings, scarves.

Silk/Cotton Voile 20/ 80 114cm
This beautiful voile silk/cotton blend is a perfect weight for summer clothing. It has a soft but lusterous matt finish.
Silk/Cotton Voile 25/ 75
This lovely silk/cotton voile has a soft lustreous sheen and is also perfact for clothing. The extra width makes it ideal for patterns on the bias, and perfect for privacy curtains.
Silk Jersey
A beautiful light/medium weight pure silk jersey. This fabric comes in tube form, ideal for seemless garments, and can easily be cut flat for all other purposes. Divine for soft, stretchy, comfortable, drapable fashionwear which will hold it's shape. It has a soft sheen and takes a dye well.
Silk to dye for ......
A generous supply of assorted silks for the dyer, aimed to introduce new silks not tried before;each pack contains an ever changing selection of seven different silks that vary in size. Sizes may be fat quarter, selvedge to selvedge about 20cm wide, or in the case of high end silks and velvet, around 30cm.
